Prescription Pill Opiate Overdose Deaths in Women Up 400%

Chris Newcomb, M.Div.

Prescription pills are commonplace in America today.  From Nexium to Xanax, people take all sorts of 'maintenance' pills to keep chronic conditions at bay.  Often, these prescriptions are taken exactly as prescribed with not intent to abuse.  However, many people don't know that they're brain is chemically set-up for addiction, so to speak.

It used to be that the most common stereotype in America about drug addicts was that they predominately male.  Today things are much, much different!  Women and children as well as teens and young adults are also finding how addictive these pain pills can be.

The latest numbers from the CDC as reported by NBC Nightly News are staggering:  opiate overdoses by women are up 400%!!!
